Peaceful Reverie

By Elyse Eaton

With a smile and a speaking glance, I pull my red hooded sweatshirt from around my waist.  I struggle to push my arms and head through.  Hearing your clear, strong laughter, I glimpse the sun peeking through the canopied trees.  The sweet smell of lilacs carries us along the once well-trod path.  The leaves crackling beneath our sneaker-ed feet are a bitter sweet reminder that summer is quickly closing behind us.

I breathe in deeply clinging to your hand, finding your quiet strength as you lead on and point out the hidden beauty there for eyes that are willing to see.  Tall feathery grass on either side bows gracefully at the wind's prodding.  Flies buzz determined to be part of the peaceful reverie.

And at least we arrive.  The knobby log half shorn of it's woody coat provides a resting place and you gently pull me close like a secret treasure of untold worth.
